African-Inspired Decks add New Capabilities, Strategic Dimensions to Wargame

BROOKLINE, Mass. – December 11, 2006 – Your Move Games today announced a new faction for its award-winning Battleground: Fantasy Warfare with the addition of the African-Inspired Umenzi Tribesman starter and reinforcement decks. The new faction is expected to ship to retailers in February 2007.

The Umenzi Tribesmen is the sixth faction for Battleground: Fantasy Warfare. The Umenzi is an African-inspired fantasy tribe with a magic system based on a cinematic interpretation of voodoo, and expands the scope of magic in Battleground with the game’s first spellcasting units. The Umenzi’s core weapons are cudgels, spears, javelins and other throwing devices, while priestly units cast spells to aid their own forces or harm the enemy.

“Each Battleground faction brings new units, new abilities and new strategic options,” said Your Move Games Founder and Co-CEO Chad Ellis. “The Umenzi faction includes many inexpensive units with solid offensive stats, creating the potential for large hordes of Umenzi warriors to overwhelm enemy factions whose troops will often be better equipped but fewer in number. That’s certainly not your only option, however: the Umenzi also have elite warriors like the Chosen, as well as the Giant War Elephant, a unit so large we need two cards to fit it!”

The Umenzi faction also adds a new dimension to army construction and deployment – rank-and-file warriors that receive courage bonuses when they are close to leader units. This means that by deploying leaders carefully a player can field an army with many inexpensive units that will still be resolute in the face of enemy attacks.

Battleground: Fantasy Warfare is a tabletop tactical wargame in which cards, rather than expensive miniatures, represent your units. Battleground is non-collectible - each faction comes in non-random Starter and Reinforcement decks. Starter decks include eighteen unit cards, that faction's thirty-card Command Deck, two reference cards and the basic rules. Each Starter deck includes a list of two 1500-point armies that can be built from the deck.
