First Card-Based Table-Top Wargame Premiers at GenCon Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –August 22, 2005 – Your Move Games today announced the launch of Battleground: Fantasy Warfare, the first card-based, table-top tactical wargame. Battleground was introduced to gamers at GenCon Indianapolis where sales exceeded expectations, and is now available for purchase from local and online retailers.

Battleground: Fantasy Warfare is a table-top tactical wargame that uses cards, rather than expensive miniatures, to represent units. This eliminates the main barriers to miniature-based tabletop wargaming (cost, time and inconvenience) and also enables players to track information right on the card, rather than requiring reference books and tables for resolving combat. Because Battleground’s cards are dry-erasable, players write down orders and mark off damage directly on the cards, wiping them clean at the end of play.

“Battleground completely revolutionizes tabletop wargaming,” said Your Move Games Founder and Co-CEO Chad Ellis. “We didn’t just eliminate the pain of miniature gaming, we improved on the gaming experience itself by replacing the ‘hive mind’ model of generalship with a realistic order-based system. Three factions are available for Battleground: Fantasy Warfare: Men of Hawkshold, Orcs and Undead, each with Starter and Reinforcement decks. Starter decks provide all the cards needed to play (eighteen unit cards, a thirty-card Command Deck and two reference cards plus basic rules), while Reinforcement decks expand design options with fifty additional unit cards, including two unit types not found in the starter, plus advanced rules.
